Spider, the PR and Digital agency, has announced the new appointment of a Chief Operating Officer. Michelle Butler, who has spent the last seven years as General Manager of the UK office of Bord Bia (Irish Food Board), brings to Spider considerable experience working directly with FMCG businesses, specialism in sustainability having led the acclaimed Origin Green initiative at Bord Bia, and valuable previous experience from working at Unilever, GSK and Reckitt Benckiser.

Over the last 2 years Spider has doubled its turnover and invested significantly behind its digital capability now with a 14-strong in-house team lead by new appointee, Amy Dutton, who has joined from HostelWorld.com, the publicly quoted travel business.

Sara Pearson is remaining as CEO and continuing to focus on business growth and creative output. She says: “I have known and worked with Michelle for many years and I am thrilled she has decided to cross to the other side and bring her exceptional client knowledge to our agency. Spider has always focused on delivering accountability through deep commercial understanding – alongside our unique guarantee – and with Michelle’s expertise we can further consolidate our proposition”.

Michelle Butler says: “I am delighted to join Spider.  I have always admired the work that Sara and the team have done for their clients with their creativity, agility and passion.  I look forward to being able to bring my sustainability and client-side expertise to help Spider deliver even more for our clients.”
