#WalkToWorkDay

We’ve been walking up a sweat this morning. In support of National Walk to Work Day, 22 of Spider’s finest swapped London trains, tubes and buses for comfortable trainers on the commute into the office today.

With alarms set a little earlier than usual, the team covered over 75 miles by foot and walked from all corners of the city to descend on the Spider House in London Bridge for a 9am start to the working day.

We had walkers from Balham (5.4 miles), Chelsea (5 miles), Blackheath (5.5 miles), Clapham Junction (5.2 miles), Dulwich (3.4 miles) and many more areas.

What was the deal? We donated £10 to charity on behalf of each team member who walked to work, and £15 for each person that completed 5 miles or more.

As a result, we are delighted to announce that we raised an amazing £255. The funds are being donated to Glass Door, a charity that supports the homeless community in London.

National Walk to Work Day is an annual event aimed at encouraging people to get out more and reap the mental and physical benefits that walking can offer. Not only can increasing your step count help keep you fit, it can reduce the risk of health conditions, improve mental health, lower commuting costs, reduce your carbon footprint and help the environment.

It gave us a great buzz to raise money for our charity of choice, but we’re also pretty proud of few other things too. We estimate that our walking exploits this morning helped us to save over 8kg of CO2 emissions. In addition to this, we have worked out that we saved burnt over 6,000 calories between us – pass us the cake to celebrate!
